Post ArchiQuant
Is there an easy and full proof way to open ArchiQuant database in an Excel sheet, modify it, and return it to ArchiQuant?
This would be an invaluable tool, as AQ database starts to get a bit to big with the time.
Thank you

Miguel

Hi Miguel,

unfortunately I cannot say Yes or No... it depends on the database you are using.
This comes from the fact that Excel (as any other spreadsheet) doesn't handle multi-line field.
If you database doesn't include any multi-line description you can open it using Excel (the database is located in the ArchiQuant_DATA folder and it is just a TXT file).
If your database includes multi-line description (I mean description where you use a carriage return to start a new line) you can still open it under Excel but the result (over all after the modifications) can have strange behavior.

Yes, I noticed that.

I opened the txt file in word, transformed the tabbed text into a table, and then copy/pasted it into excel, a "allmost" got it right.
There where a couple of multilined cells that misbehaved.
If I only knew what made them misbehave, I would have a practical work flow:
word tabbed text>table, copy paste into excel, change content, copy paste into word, table>tabbed, save as txt.
I will keep on working on it.
If this is not possible at all, then I have a wish :)
A way to edit fields and entries in ArchiQuant as in Excel, where you could look at everything at the same time, and renumber the fields just by dragging them up or down..

Regards
Miguel

I fully agree with you!
We were already thinking about something like this...
Of course this change is not so easy so it won't be for a maintenance release but for a major update.

Miguel, please, be so kind to send me any suggestion/request: I will add to the ArchiQuant wish list...
